Valentine’s Day is upon us and that means endless amounts of sappy flowers, cards and chocolate commercials all up in your face!

Students of Caribbean Ancestry (S.O.C.A.),however, gives your traditional Valentine’s Day a little twist with this Friday’s (Feb. 15) Traffic Jam event being held at the Stood. The party begins at 10 p.m. and the theme coincides with relationship status: green meaning that you’re single, red if you’re taken, or for those people still holding on to hope, wear yellow meaning that it’s complicated.

What’s not complicated is the way the party came about. After having a brief interview with S.O.C.A. president, Cory Jenkins, he explained the origin of the event stating.

“This party started back in 2008 and it’s been a tradition ever since,” Jenkins said. “Manhattanville actually took our idea and ran with it and made it theirs naming it, Stop Light Party.”

When asked if there is anything he and the club do differently for this party in particular, he simply responded with, “It’s nothing extra really. This is usually the party that kicks off the semester for us, so we do tend to promote it more.”

Going around campus searching for any interest in the event, a couple of students had some insight on how they feel about the upcoming event. Pedro Perez, Liberal Arts major, had this to say on the upcoming event, “It should be interesting and fun, seeing as I have attended the past couple of years, which have been successful.”

“I’m excited, this is one of the first parties back,”Said Nicholas Avila, an arts management major.  “S.O.C.A.’s parties generally have a good turnouts, and the Stood’s new layout isn’t too bad either.”

So remember, if you’re thinking for things to do with your loved one, trying to forget that person or just quite frankly want to piss him/her off, Traffic Jam will provide the opportunity to do all three if your game is tight.
